"Lot C-91 is the culmination of 50 years of tireless effort, trial and error, and the continual desire to make a most unique expression of the heralded vineyards of Heitz Cellar. We are honored to re-release this cuvée, in honor of Joe Heitz." —Brittany Sherwood, Director of Winemaking
While Joe pioneered the single vineyard movement in the Napa Valley, he
recognized that you could convey a most pure and unique expression of
place through the art of assemblage or blending. Lot C-91 was his
proclamation, his testament to combining the power, elegance, and
longevity of Cabernet Sauvignon coming exclusively from the single
vineyards of Heitz Cellar.
In the vineyard
Throughout the years, studying Joe's notes and gaining a deeper understanding of the terroirs of the various parcels has allowed us to resurrect Lot C-91, a historical cuvée with an unprecedented depth, complexity, and aging potential.
In keeping with the original vision, Lot C-91 continues to be sourced from treasured parcels in Western Oakville, Eastern Rutherford, Southeast Howell Mountain, and the foothills of St. Helena and represents a greater step up in quality from the acclaimed Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon.
In the cellar
Aged for nine months in large neutral casks and a combination of new and used French oak, the 2016 Lot C-91 exhibits the density and length of which only the truly great wines of the world are able to achieve. The presence of savory elements such as sage, rosemary, cured meats, and black pepper distinguishes this cuvée from any other. The conclusion of the Lot C-91 on the palate displays incredible complexity and harmony, and those who can afford to be patient will be rewarded for decades to come.
About The Winery
Family owned since its founding in
1961, Heitz Cellar’s legacy runs as deep as the roots throughout the
Napa Valley; a winery legend that has helped shape the history of Napa
Valley winemaking. In the late 1950’s, pioneering vintner Joe Heitz
ushered in Napa’s modern era with his iconic, globally celebrated wines,
including Napa Valley’s first vineyard-designated Cabernet Sauvignon,
the renowned Heitz Cellar Martha’s Vineyard. Fifty-eight years of the
Heitz family’s dedication to viticulture, stewardship, and classic
winemaking, maintained the winery’s notoriety as a benchmark amongst its
peers in California and Europe.
In April, 2018, Heitz Cellar
entered an exciting new chapter as this rich legacy was passed into the
hands of the Lawrence family, whose deep roots in agriculture and
commitment to the same core values of fine winemaking made it a perfect
match. The wines are made with an unwavering commitment to quality from
organically farmed, 100% Napa Valley fruit, and a commitment to the
sustainability of Napa Valley.
